MASON (WILX)-- For the first year, the Ingham County Fair Foundation and the Ingham County Fairgrounds has decided to host a "Winter Fest."

The event started at 3 pm Friday and will end with a "Holidays Celebration" firework show at 8:45 in front of the fairground's grandstand. The whole event includes a craft show, family make-and-takes, a Christmas tree auction, and a parade that starts at Bond Park at 6:30 pm.

The event was put on a as a fundraiser for next years 160th Ingham County Fair. In years past a gate fee has provided most of the money needed to keep the fair a-float, but this year the budget has been tight.

"People mistakenly think the county funds the fair. It doesn't. It's one hundred percent self sufficient," said Carl Carlson, Fair Foundation Executive Director.

That's why the Ingham County Fair Foundation decided to put on a "Winter Fest."

It's free to the public, but the funds from the Christmas tree auction and craft show table fees should be enough to maintain costs for next year.
