House Takes Up Health Care Repeal

Even though it has no chance of passage in the Senate, the House will vote this week to repeal the health care reform law passed by the previous session of Congress.
The effort was delayed for more than a week following the shootings in Tucson, Arizona, in which Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was critically wounded.
Republicans are intent on framing health care repeal as a central issue in the 2012 election campaign, when the presidency and control of Congress are again up for grabs.
But if Republicans then mount a drive to deny funding for parts of the health care reform law, it's politically risky. It could prompt a shut down of the government, something that could backfire on the GOP politically. The vote is Wednesday.
