HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- A Hope College student in western Michigan has died after being struck by a private bus.
Ottawa County authorities say 18-year-old Riley Gortsema was walking on U.S. 31 when she was hit by a bus around 1:45 a.m. Saturday in Holland Township.
Hope College says Gortsema was a sophomore living on campus while taking a spring class. MLive.com says she grew up in Grandville and attended Calvin Christian High School.
Gortsema was interviewed and photographed in 2011 for a story about overcoming the death of her older brother, Travis. He committed suicide in 2008.
