Senator Carl Levin will head to Jackson Thursday for a big high-speed rail announcement.
He will be joined by Congressman Mark Schauer and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari.
News 10 was not given a preview of that announcement, but last year Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Michigan would get "top consideration" from the Obama administration for a high-speed rail line.
States with high unemployment rates would be front of the line for the program.
Governor Granholm has been pushing for a line connecting Detroit and Chicago.
Thursday's announcement will be made at the Amtrak station in Jackson. We will have an update tonight on news 10.
