Lansing firefighters rescued a woman from her sixth-floor balcony after a fire broke out at a residential complex in near Frandor.

The Lansing Fire Department says the fire started at about 6:30 a.m. at Friendship Manor in Lansing near the Frandor area.

Witnesses say the fire alarms in the building went off, and they heard loud noises as the windows blew out. The woman, who firefighters say was in her 60s, was rescued by a ladder crew from the outside of her apartment. She was taken to Sparrow Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A firefighter was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Firefighters say the fire was contained in that one apartment, but residents who lived on the fifth or sixth floors near there had to be evacuated. Firefighters are working to figure out when those residents can get back into their homes, and if they will need hotel rooms for the night.

Firefighters are now investigating what caused the fire.
