Handwriting is no longer part of some elementary school curriculums. Many schools have adopted Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which focus on the use of technology to produce and publish writing, and include the development of keyboarding skills.
Students are encouraged to practice both handwriting and keyboarding at home. There are a variety of websites and apps available to assist with skill development that can easily be found through a web search or through an application store on a mobile device.
News 10's Shannon Kantner is talking with a local school about this and will have the full story on WILX at 6:00.
