LANSING - A fight over the disposal of a broken beer bottle killed one man and has now sent his shooter to prison for the rest of his life. A jury found Kelvin Bates guilty Tuesday of first degree murder of Micah Arnold in Lansing August 31, 2012. Bates shot Arnold multiple times at close range during a dispute in the 3100 block of Turner Street. The trial began June 4th. It took a jury less than a day to reach their verdict. Bates is scheduled to be sentenced July 24th. Open murder carries a mandatory life sentence. Bates was also found guilty of assault with intent to murder and carrying a concealed weapon.
