Gov. Snyder Says He Will Sign Emergency Manager Bill

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder says he plans to sign a revised emergency manager bill that replaces a similar law rejected last month by voters.

The Republican governor told The Associated Press on Monday that he will review the legislation to ensure there are no significant changes and then sign it. The measure gives local governments several options, including accepting a manager, declaring bankruptcy, undergoing mediation and entering a consent decree as Detroit has done.

Meanwhile, Detroit is undergoing a 30-day financial review by the state that's expected to be completed on or about Jan. 11.

The new emergency manager law won't take effect until late March. Snyder says certain decisions on Detroit's future will be made under an existing law that gives managers fewer powers.

The voters rejected it becasue the liberals have been trying to get every possible consistituional admentment on the books and they get in the habit of voting no. If voters really want to get out of our current glut, we have to reform some of these cities in with the leadership could not balance their books. Those books were heavily managed by democrats and not republicans.

I thought that it was a good thing that the Republicans were in charge? Why aren't they listening to the people? We voted down this law, Democrat and Republican alike, but that doesn't matter I guess.

The new bill gives them plenty of options before they're "taken over". What do you want? Do you really think these imbiciles that can't keep their finances in the black should be allowed to drag the rest of the state down time after time after time??? I say hell yeah... throw them a life ring ONE time and if they don't grab it, let 'em drown!

What do the citizens of this state have to do in order for this governor and the Republican led state house to listen. The emergency manager law was soundly defeated and instead of the Republicans paying attention to the will of the people, they quickly come up with a new version. Republicans are always talking about freedom, but the only freedom they really care about is their freedom to tell us what to do.
