GM Offers Big Discounts To Boost Volt Sales

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors is offering big discounts to boost sales of the Chevrolet Volt, an electric car that struggled to attract buyers until its price began dropping early this year.

Discounts run as high as $10,000 per Volt, according to figures from, an auto pricing website. They include low-interest financing and subsidized leases.

Sales of the $40,000 car have quadrupled this year, and set a monthly record in August. However, GM is losing thousand of dollars on every Volt.

The sales show that Americans, who have been slow to embrace electric cars, are willing to buy them if prices are low enough.

Electrics cars have a long way to go before they enter the mainstream and generate profits. Electrics and gas-electric hybrids account for 3.5 percent of U.S. auto sales this year.

When I buy a car , I have to ask myself this question. Do I buy an American car which has less quality just because it is made in America by high paying union jobs or do I buy a car that's also made in America that has a reputation for quality, regardless of who owns the company? The answer is a no-brainer. Why should I pay more and get less just so some union employee can make twice as much money as I do. My money as well as fax-free payday loansis just as important to me as it is to the highly paid union employees.

What a joke, why would you want to spend 40 g,s on a car that the battery blows up on you. Or have they got that fixed? Kinda reminds me of when GMC made the SSR at the craft center in Lansing just a El Comeno want a be, could not sell any of them ether.
