AAA Michigan says gas prices rose 5 cents last week to an average statewide of about $3.74 per gallon. The auto club said that the average price is about 30 cents per gallon more than last year at this time.

GasBuddy.com spotters are reporting gas prices that are rising to $3.95 in Michigan, and they fear it could rise to nearly $4.00 per gallon. On Friday, Meijer stores sent out a text alert saying that gas prices would be going up.

The Energy Department's statistical arm, the Energy Information Administration says that higher oil prices are responsible for the increase in gas prices. Brent crude oil, was up $10 a barrel from mid-December to early February. That translates to about 24 cents per gallon of gas.
