General Motors will build a $44.5 million expansion at the Lansing Grand River plant. Construction could begin as early as later this summer and be open next summer. It will employ about 200 people.

The plant will be a Logistics Optimization Center where parts for the cars built at Lansing Grand River are assembled into 'kits" and sent to the assembly lines. The process makes manufacturing faster and more efficient.

"This investment was earned through the quality and flexibility that has been a hallmark of Lansing Grand River since it opened in 2001," said Lansing Regional Plant Manager Tony Francavilla.

The Grand River plant builds Cadillacs, including the ATS which was named this year's North American Car of the Year. Eventually, it will build the next generation of the Camaro.
