Former State Rep. Kate Ebli from Monroe has died.
A statement issued Monday by Ebli's family and colleagues says the 52-year-old died Sunday evening.
The statement did not list a cause of death but mentioned Ebli had been battling a recurrence of cancer for the past year. She was first diagnosed with cancer in 2004.
The Democrat completed her second full term in the Michigan House last week. She lost a re-election bid to Republican Dale Zorn in November.
Ebli was first elected to the House in a special election in 2006.
Colleagues said Ebli was a passionate advocate for her community and a gifted public servant. She is survived by a husband and daughter.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
