A Democratic Party TV ad says Oakland County clerk and Republican secretary of state candidate Ruth Johnson supported using foreclosure lists to challenge voters at the polls.
The 30-second spot relates to a 2008 rumor that people going through home foreclosure might be blocked from voting.
The ad also says Democratic candidate Jocelyn Benson opposed foreclosure lists.
The election is Nov. 2.
Benson is a Wayne State University law professor and also has aired a TV ad saying Johnson supported the effort.
Johnson says she's never supported using the lists and worked to make sure "anyone in foreclosure would know they could vote."
She says Benson was among those spreading the false rumor about voter challenges.
