The Food Bank Council of Michigan's harvest gathering campaign broke a record this year.
It raised $505,000 and collected 431,000 lbs. of food.
The numbers were announced during an awards ceremony Wednesday. Volunteers were thanked for their services.
Food banks, however, still need help feeding Michigan's hungry.
"We want you to think about us during the Christmas holiday, during the really tough season right after the Christmas season because, you know, people start to scale back because they spent so many dollars during Christmas," says Kareemah El-Amin of the Food Bank Council of Michigan. "We need people to remember us and pay it forward and do a little bit extra every time you donate."
The collections from the harvest gathering are distributed to food pantries and soup kitchens statewide.
