Fish Experts Recommend Keeping Brook Trout Limit

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Fisheries experts with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources say a rule limiting daily possession of brook trout to five in the Upper Peninsula should remain in place.
In 2000, the number of brook trout from U.P. streams that any angler may possess in a single day was reduced from 10 to five. Some anglers favor returning the maximum to 10.
Fisheries division staffers studied the matter and conducted online and telephone surveys.
In a statement last week, the DNR said most survey participants opposed raising the limit. The agency said it could pose a slight biological risk while benefiting only a few anglers.
The Natural Resources Commission will take comments on the matter during a Sept. 13 meeting in Lansing and make a final decision Oct. 11 in Ontonagon. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
