Firefighters are on the streets in many Mid-Michigan communities this weekend fundraising for a good cause.

Today firefighters will be at the corner of Hartel Road and M-43 in Grand Ledge collecting donations for their "Fill the Boot" campaign. The proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Contributions also go towards MDA's summer camps for children, professional and public health education, and other programs.

"We had the opportunity to go to camp and meet some of the kids that suffer from muscular dystrophy, and it's just really a blessing to go and talk with them and hang out with them and just see what they go through on a daily basis," Grand Ledge firefighter and paramedia Andy Russian said.

You can also find firefighters at Main and Ovid Streets in downtown Elsie, as well as the Wal-mart on Superior Drive in St. Johns.

Many will be filling boots the next two weekends as well.
