A man watching his mother's house in Olivet tried to put a fire out himself before calling 911 Tuesday night. The fire chief tells wilx.com the home is "in pretty bad shape" with water damage to the first floor; water, smoke and heat damage to the second; and most of the things in the attic destroyed. The owner's son was outside when the fire started in a back bedroom and went in to see if he could handle it before calling for help. Nobody was hurt.
