What about the people who have to WORK out on the road? Police? Emergency workers? Construction workers? Nobody slows down for them and they HAVE to be out there! Perhaps if drivers opened their eyes more and put the cell phones down it would be a safer place all around?

As far as I know, this story has nothing to do with a distracted driver. I also don't hear many stories about people killed while working in he road, so it appears people are doing a pretty good job out there.

I saw it happen! I was east bound on I-96 and could not believe my eyes! I just pulled over. He was lying im the middle of the fast lane facing the traffic. I thought he jumped out of the van! I could see the fear in the eyes of everyone in the van. That man, the driver saved his family's life's, but there all scared for life! Because of one mans quest! Too bad...god bless them and him too! Roger

This is why it is against the law to walk on highways/freeways. My condolences go to any friends and family. All, please learn from the tragic mistakes of others.

I ran out of gas at night on US 127 southbound.I turned the hazards lights on and walked (and walked and walked). The trucks went by so fast it was scary. Yeah, the highway is no place to be walking but what about situations like this, where you HAVE to walk?

Cell phone? Pop hood wait for police? Cut through fields? Lots of options Angie including making sure you have enough gas before you go driving your car.
