Michigan Citizen Action (MCA) and the Fan Freedom Project (FFP) are warning fans to expect a fast sellout for Justin Bieber’s July 28 concert at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. That's because only a fraction of the 20,000 seats will likely be made available to the public.

Tickets to Bieber’s concerts have been known to sell out in as little as 30 seconds because of the significant number of tickets set aside for fan club and premium credit card pre-sales and VIPs, leaving thousands of fans disappointed each time.

“Fans must be aware of the significant ticket holdbacks that often occur with high-demand events,” said Linda Teeter, executive director of MCA. “Justin Bieber fans in Michigan should be prepared to experience a fast sellout when tickets go on sale to the public this Friday.”

Ticket holdbacks occur when event producers, concert promoters and performing artists pre-sell or reserve tickets to companies, record labels, VIPs, fan clubs, credit card holders, and personal friends.

Only 1,001 of 14,000 tickets were available to the public for a recent Bieber concert in Tennessee.

“Bieber fans in Tennessee saw just how great the odds were stacked against them when an investigative news unit revealed only seven percent of event tickets were available for sale to the general public,” said Jon Potter, president of FFP. “Michigan fans deserve to know how many tickets are being held back, whom they are allotted to and exactly what kind of shot they have to buy tickets.”

Several states have considered legislation that would require venues and artists to disclose the number of tickets available for an event and the amount held back in an effort to make the ticket market fairer and more transparent for fans.

Tickets for the July 28 Justin Bieber concert at Joe Louis Arena go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14
