The Metropolitan Lansing YMCA hosted a family safety expo today, with a number of events designed to educate kids and parents before they head out to enjoy the warm weather.
Safety demonstrations by Lansing Police and Fire ranged from bike and water to electrical safety, with demonstrations from other sponsors of the event as well.
Mindy Biladeau, Executive Director of Downtown Lansing Inc., said one of the purposes of the event was "Just to promote that downtown is a great, safe environment and families can really have fun." She noted the river and the Riverwalk.
Kelly King, the Executive Director of the Downtown YMCA Wellness Center remarked on some of the YMCA's water safety and swimming classes, adding that "families might be taking to the water for different outdoor activities."
In addition to the demonstrations, Lansing's own Big Lug and McGruff the Crime Dog made guest appearances at the event, just for the kids.
