Machelle Dorris could only watch as her longtime friend, 36-year-old Micah Arnold, died after being shot several times, Friday night.

"My brother and Micah were approached by this young man," said Dorris. "Next thing you know, he shot Micah in the neck."

Lansing police were called to the 3100 block of Turner street, just before 11 p.m., Friday, on reports that a man had been shot. It was there that officers found Arnold lying on the ground. He was having difficulty breathing and was covered in blood.

Matthew Fenton, who was playing cards in a nearby apartment when he heard the shots, says it was a scary scene.

"I looked out the window and I saw the guy over the top of the other guy just shooting him," said Fenton.

Fenton says the suspect fled to the back of the apartment complex and that is when he went out to check on Arnold.

"There was a crowd over him and everyone was flipping out," said Fenton.

Arnold was quickly taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:33 a.m.

"My friend asked me to save his life," said Dorris. "That's the last words he said."

Friends and family say Friday's shooting was the latest in a series of incidents that started a week ago over a beer bottle the suspect was asked to throw away.

Police say they have identified a suspect, but they have yet to release his name. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
