HOLLAND, Mich. -- An autopsy shows a western Michigan high school basketball player who collapsed on the court and later died after making a game-winning shot had an enlarged heart.
The Ottawa County medical examiner says the official cause of death is cardiac arrest due to the enlarged heart.
The autopsy on Wes Leonard was conducted Friday.
The 16-year-old from Fennville High was pronounced dead Thursday at Holland Hospital.
He had scored the game-winning layup in a 57-55 overtime win over Bridgman to cap Fennville's 20-0 season. Leonard fell to the ground during a post-game celebration.
