State police and the FBI are investigating the Romulus Police Department, but authorities aren't revealing what it's about.
Officials on Tuesday conducted searches at the headquarters of the suburban Detroit agency, the Garden City home of police Chief Michael St. Andre and his wife's tanning salon in Westland.
St. Andre tells WDIV-TV the investigation started three years ago and says he's cooperated. He says he can't say much more about it.
State police Inspector Garth Burnside has confirmed to The Detroit News, the Detroit Free Press and TV stations WJBK and WDIV that an investigation with searches is under way but declines to give details.
Mayor Alan Lambert says in a statement that the city has told St. Andre and police to cooperate with the investigation.
