ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) -- An explosion has destroyed a home in a suburb north of Detroit.
Police in Royal Oak are confirming the house exploded Wednesday afternoon on Cooper near Woodward and 13 Mile Road. No other details were available.
Detroit television stations showed planks of burning and smoking wood spread about the neighborhood. At least two nearby homes were damaged by the blast. Firefighters were working to put out the flames.
It was not immediately known if anyone was inside the house at the time of the explosion.
Kate Sikora lives on Cooper and says some windows in her home were blown out. Sikora tells WXYZ-TV that utility crews had been working along the street.
She called the explosion scary and says "this kind of stuff only happens in the movies."
