Ex-Michigan Union Secretary Pleads to Embezzlement

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- A former office secretary for a plumbers union in Lansing has pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling more than $400,000 from the union and its joint apprenticeship and training fund.
April Dawn Franklin worked for Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333 between 1999 and 2009.
The Lansing State Journal reports Thursday she took $234,331 from the apprenticeship fund between 2006 and 2009 and $40,886 in union dues between 2008 and 2009.
The plea agreement also refers to additional funds Franklin took from the union, bringing the total amount she embezzled to about $412,000.
Franklin faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 when she's sentenced on July 25.
