Henry Ford and Thomas Edison are coming together once again.
Well, sort of.
Ford Motor Co. President and chief executive Alan Mulally is to receive the Edison Achievement Award at a ceremony in New York on Tuesday.
Edison's great-grandniece Sarah Miller Caldicott says the awards haven't honored the automaker previously.
But besides Mulally, Ford, the company, is nominated for a number of awards at Tuesday's ceremony -- for its MyFord Touch, MyKey, SYNC AppLink and rear inflatable seat belt technologies.
Henry Ford and Edison talked in 1896 at the annual meeting of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies, and Edison later became a mentor to Ford and encouraged his work as an inventor and a businessman.
The great American innovators were lifelong friends and even vacationed together.
