In a dramatic change in the trial for former Jackson judge James Justin, the four felony charges he was facing were reduced to misdemeanors. Justin pleaded guilty to bring the trial to an abrupt end.

After a day of testimony yesterday, today was to have been for closing arguments. The case then would have gone to a jury.

Justin was facing four felonies for the common law offense of misconduct in office for dismissing parking tickets for his wife and other court staff members.

News 10 reporter Alyssa Fenske is in the courtroom and will have updates later.

Why should anyone be able to plea deal from a felony to a misdemeanor. Crime is a problem because no one is held accountable. He was a judge, knew the rules, broke them, benefitted from them, and goes from felon to simple misdemeanor. Must be nice.

Even though he did the right thing and admitted guilt, I don't think they should have cut the crook a deal. I think that those who are entrusted to uphold the law, should be punished to the max if they break it. If anything, as both a lesson and a deterrent to others in power who think they can get away with such things.

Does he lose his pension or serve time? I think that is the only thing that would return trust to the justice system.
