Detroit Area Police Officer Killed

The Livonia police chief says one of his officers was shot to death in an exchange of gunfire with two burglary suspects, and one suspect also died.
Chief Robert Stevenson says 48-year-old Officer Larry Nehasil was a 20-year veteran of the suburban Detroit police department and worked for the Wayne County sheriff before that.
The shootings happened about 6 p.m. Monday in Walled Lake, which is about 10 miles north-northwest of Livonia.
Stevenson says police arrested the second suspect. He says additional information about the shootings will come from the Oakland county sheriff's department. That agency had no further information late Monday.
Stevenson tells reporters that Nehasil is the first Livonia officer killed during a felony. He says an officer died in a crash in the 1950s.

The DFP reported: "What started as a typical evening in an upscale neighborhood in Walled Lake turned into the scene of a shootout Monday when an undercover police team tried to arrest two people under surveillance in a suspected home invasion ring. Police rammed a car driven by someone suspected of having just broken into a home on the 100 block of Glenwood." Perhaps the undercover Police should of waited for backup prior to ramming the suspects car. My sympathies go out to the families.

This kind of story is heartbreaking. Officers risk life protecting us and our property and this can be the result. Tougher gun control will not prevent this from happening.Guns will always be in the hands of the crimminals. Michigan needs a death sentence again. My condolences to the family.
