DETROIT (AP) -- A Marathon Petroleum spokesman says no one was hurt after a fire at a refinery in Detroit.

Shane Pochard tells The Associated Press the fire occurred Saturday evening in one of the smaller tanks at the Marathon Petroleum refinery. He says the fire has been put out and the cause is being investigated.

Pochard says no employees or contractors were injured. He says Marathon Petroleum has conducted extensive air monitoring in the neighborhood where the refinery is located and the area is safe.

He says fire officials in nearby Melvindale had issued an evacuation for residents of that city who live near the refinery, but are now allowing them back home. Pochard didn't know how many residents were affected by the evacuation, and fire officials could not immediately be reached.

Firstly, the refinery is NOT located in Detroit. It is in the city of Melvindale. Citizens in the City of Detroit are OUTRAGED at NOT being notified of the dangers, nor were they told of evacuated areas or why. Detroiter's were endangered by not being notified of the hazmat situation. Detroiter's didn't understand why they saw the detroit fire department just sitting there at the boarderline of the city an not going in to assist. When asked, it was replied "because Melvindale has not asked for our assistance in the fire".
