DETROIT (AP)------A bankruptcy lawyer and turnaround expert tasked with reviving Detroit's beleaguered finances could be greeted by a crowd of protesters when he arrives at work today.
Kevyn Orr plans to spend his first day meeting with some city officials who for months fought against creating his job.
He is under no illusions that he'll be treated as a hero as he begins his duties as Motor City's emergency manager. The appointment makes Detroit the largest U.S. city ever put under state control.
Orr says he's motivated by the opportunity to engineer one of the nation's greatest fiscal turnarounds.
The Washington D.C.-based attorney tells The Associated Press that he has no immediate plan of action except to sit down with Mayor Dave Bing and other officials to discuss the crisis.
