Democratic candidates in Michigan's 8th District are gearing up for a fight in November. Not even 24 hours after the polls closed in the August primary election, candidates are uniting in an effort to win Republican Mike Rogers' seat in Congress.

Weary and tired from campaign celebrations, they were up early on Wednesday to make the most of the time they have to win votes for November's election.

Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing will face Republican Mike Bishop for Michigan's 8th Congressional District. Bishop has an endorsement from outgoing incumbent Mike Rogers.

On Wednesday afternoon, Democratic leaders from the district gathered for lunch at Sir Pizza in Lansing's Old Town. They say they're determined to get Schertzing to Congress to defend policies that will help the middle class grow. It was the second campaign stop for Schertzing, after an early morning in Detroit.

Democrat and Ingham County Register of Deeds Curtis Hertel, Junior was also there. He's fighting to win Senator Gretchen Whitmer's seat in the State Senate. Hertel says he'll keep hitting the streets to talk with voters. "What we need to do in November is what we did in the primary. We knocked 28,000 doors in the primary. We're going to get back on those doors in a couple weeks, keep talking to voters, find out what they care about and express our values and I think it will be, turn out the same way."

Schertzing says Democrats are building momentum for some big wins. "We're going to reach out and build the campaign into the winning structure the Democrats need in November. The entire ticket is unified with Mark Schauer and Gary Peters and all of the state party efforts are going to come together and motivate voters to turn out."
