Common Ground Good for Lansing Business

Construction for the Common Ground Music Festival is in full swing. And as the summer festival gets ready for its 15th year, downtown Lansing is getting ready for the annual economic boost.

"We have a great impact in the community," said Jenna Meyer, marketing director for the Common Ground Music Festival. "Over the course of 14 years, we've had over $50 million in an economic impact. We have contributed nearly $500,000 of charitable donations, which is great, so annually we do about $4 million in economic impact."

That economic impact starts with the construction crew. Meyer says nearly 200 people are contributing to the festival's setup.

"They're from all over the country actually," she said. "We've got some people that come from Nashville, Michigan, everywhere, you name it."

The various companies coming together include Odyssey Lighting, Proaudio, and American Rentals, among others.

"They all provide the equipment we need, which is the first thing, and the second thing, i think, you know it's a great venue to work at," she said.

It's day four in the festival's setup at Adado Riverfront Park,, and Meyer says everything is running smoothly.

"We're working on the build today," she said. "We've got tents coming in. They're building some platforms. The stage came in yesterday, so we're just, we're just continuing to build the place."

The three stages will be up by Tuesday. They'll hold over 64 artists throughout the six-day festival. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
