Vendors wanted a more up-to-date and efficient Cobo Center and they're getting it heading into the annual North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The Detroit Free Press reports Wednesday that about $3 million in upgrades have been made to the aging downtown convention venue. About $400,000 was spent to repair leaks in the building's roof.
Waymon Guillebeaux (GHEE-ya-bow) tells the newspaper that $1.5 million was spent on electrical upgrades, which makes it easier for vendors working on sets for January's auto show.
Guillebeaux is a member of a regional authority overseeing Cobo's operations.
There had been fears that the lucrative auto show would move to a venue outside Detroit if upgrades and an expansion were not made.
