LANSING TOWNSHIP - Clean-up Crews will be in the neighborhood of Adams Plating Company for not days, but weeks. Sgt. Robert Ott with Ingham County Emergency Management says the 500 block of Rosemary Avenue between Genessee and Saginaw is now expected to be closed for 2-3 weeks, as crews clean up potentially harmful chemical residue from the area and demolish the Adams Plating property itself.
Residents in two nearby homes will be out of their homes for an extended period of time. Their houses have to be more thoroughly cleaned and tested for air quality.
Adams Plating Company was destroyed by fire Monday. The building contained many hazardous chemicals. The Environmental Protection Agency has tested the water in the area and News 10 is told that it is clean. The freezing temperatures have helped in the effort to keep any potentially harmful substances from seeping into the ground.
