PERRY (WILX)-- Community leaders of Perry are considering a public stance against new gun control laws.

One city council member has purposed a resolution in support of the 2nd Amendment that will be discussed during this Tuesdays meeting.
The resolution doesn't change federal law, but will send a message to law makers that the council as a whole is against gun control.

"The right to keep and bear arms is the most important element of the 2nd amendment," said Council Member Karen Potter.

Potter is the council member that put the resolution on the agenda. She is publicly against gun control and is asking that her fellow council members do the same.

"It basically states that the city of Perry Council Members who decide to support the resolution stand firmly behind the 2nd Amendment. Its a non binding resolution. We can't change the federal government but it sends a clear message," said Potter.

Potter is unsure how many other council members share her views.
News 10 spoke on the phone with the other four council members, none would share their current views about guns, but we will find out on Tuesday when they have to vote.

Some of those who live in Perry are supportive of potters proposal and admire Potters courage.

"The fact that they are going out and saying they are for the 2nd amendment and pro gun really impresses me," said Perry resident Rod Gruesbeck.

All five council members will have to agree to pass the resolution. Community members are encouraged to attend Tuesday's meeting and will be given extra time to voice their opinions on gun control.

The meeting is Tuesday, March 19th in the lower level of Perry City Hall at 7:00 pm.

None of this would be necessary if JoeBarry and the Washington Leftist Mafia didn't start their anti gun chants getting the nation all worked up over guns. 51% of the uninformed!?!?!?

I applaud this effort of declaring where the elected representation of Perry stands on gun control so the folks who did vote them in, can see what they voted for PRO or AGAINST. Did you know before you voted......I would guess not as I don't know about Mason; so maybe we need to do the same thing. THANKS PERRY god move.

It is unwise and shows poor leadership for a local official to divide her community over an issue for which the council has no power. This can only engender bad blood in a small community. Poorly done.

No they "Want" to take your guns, only that pesky 2nd amendment is in the way. That's why you constantly hear that it doesn't mean what it says, it's out of date, and needs to be removed from the Constitution. If the "OMG MILITARY ASSAULT WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION WITH UNLIMITED CAPACITY MAGAZINES" crowd had their way there would be ATF agents knocking on people's doors collecting the guns they don't like. Which for most is any gun.

Wow, speaking of being programmed, how are you authorized to speak on behalf of 'the nation'? Sounds like you need more cheese.

What all you people, that don't mind handing over your rights, don't realize is that the U.S. IS NOT A DEMOCRACY, IT IS A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC. What that means is that a majority's support means NOTHING if the proposal violates the constitution. Put another way, 99% could support something, but if it is unconstitutional, it cannot enacted into law. I am sure we would be hearing very different arguments from all of you if the Feds were limiting free speach or wanting to quarter soldiers with you and your families.

No one is trying to take away your gun rights that are protected by the 2nd Amendment. Not everyone in Perry supports this "resolution" and are quite embarrassed that a counsel member is misinforming the public on the facts. Stop trying to scare people that their rights are being taken away....it makes you look ignorant.

Nothing like local areas with hot air who always seek to undermine what the nation believes in. Right now the nation has had enough of the free for all and a few common sense rules and regs isnt the end and tyranny the whiners want to believe or are programmed by propaganda to believe. ONE council member. One obvious clueless Republican who needs a dose of reality and to leave the bubble that party lives in
