DETROIT (AP) -- Chrysler says it will put an eight-speed automatic transmission in its all-new 300 luxury sedan that will push the big car to 30 mpg on the highway.
Chrysler brand CEO Olivier Francois says the transmission will give the luxury car class-leading fuel economy. Francois says the mileage should help sales if gas prices rise to $4 per gallon this summer.
The company unveiled the 300 on Monday at the Detroit auto show. The car will come out in the spring with a five-speed transmission and get 27 mpg. The eight-speed comes in the summer.
Francois says the new car is quieter and handles better than the old one. Chrysler also toned down the old 300's tall front grille. But it will offer the old grille as an option.
