Children Evacuate Burning School Bus

LEONI TWP., JACKSON CO. - A school bus full of children catches fire in Jackson County. Fortunately, everyone is able to get off the bus safely. The Springport School District Bus pulled over with an overheated engine along the eastbound lanes of I-94 just west of Race Road in Leoni Township just before 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The bus driver was able to evacuate the bus of all the students. By the time Blackman-Leoni Public Safety fire units arrived, the school bus's engine compartment was fully engulfed in flames.
Both Springport and Grass Lake school districts sent vehicles to pick up the students within 20 minutes. No one was hurt.
