A fire damaged the Citizens grain elevator in Charlotte Thursday morning. Eyewitnesses tell News 10 they heard an explosion before flames broke out in the building at 421 North Cochran Avenue.
Charlotte Fire Chief Kevin Fullerton says firefighting crews and equipment were called from Olivet, Eaton Rapids, Grand Ledge, Potterville and Vermontville to help his department fight the fire.
The crews used four aerial tankers to pump four-thousand gallons of water a minute on the flames.
Chief Fullerton says all workers got out safely and there were no injuries.
The plant's owner says the damage is considerably less than originally thought, mainly contained in the fourth floor of the structure.
