PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- The Calhoun County sheriff's department has identified a man and woman who were killed when a candle started a fire that destroyed a 12-unit building in a Battle Creek-area apartment complex.
The fire broke out Oct. 31 at the Pines at Pennfield apartments in Calhoun County's Pennfield Township.
The sheriff's department tells the Battle Creek Enquirer that investigators have confirmed the identities of the victims. They were 39-year-old Michelle Lesperance and 61-year-old Jan A.
Koster. The department says both of them lived at the complex.
The department says a 64-year-old man awoke to find his unit burning. He was injured.
