Three of its bus drivers were among the top drivers in the Michigan Small Bus Roadeo.
Tammy Reeder, Mike Beech and Kate Gardner took third place in the team competition portion in Mount Pleasant last week.
Beech also took third place in the individual competition. Drivers competed for points based on a written test, their driving skills on an obstacle course, a test to load and unload a wheelchair passenger, and a pre-trip vehicle inspection.
"Public transit bus drivers play an important role in delivering transportation services to Michigan citizens across the state," said Dennis Adams, director of marketing and public relations for Isabella County Transportation Commission (ICTC), and event coordinator. "this event showcases the professionalism of small bus drivers and their skills behind the wheel. Transit passengers can be at ease knowing they are in good hands every day."
Top winners received cash prizes and trophies donated by the Michigan Association of Transportation Systems (MASSTrans) and the Michigan Public Transit Association (MPTA).
First-place honors in individual competition went to Deanna Hughes of Gladwin City/County Transit in Gladwin. Harold Smith, also of Gladwin City/County Transit, won second place. Gladwin City/County Transit won first place in the team competition, with drivers Deanna Hughes, Harold Smith and Donna Whitmer. Second place in the team competition is Clinton Area Transit System, with drivers Bob Beck, Dan Miller and Dena Minarik.
