Winter has had its yearly fiery farewell in the eastern Upper Peninsula, with the burning of the snowman on the campus of Lake Superior State University.
The 14-foot snowman went up in flames Friday at the school in Sault Ste. Marie, drawing hundreds of students and other celebrants.
It's the 41st annual snowman burning ceremony at Lake Superior State. School spokesman John Shibley says the event "takes its inspiration from the Rose Sunday Festival in Weinheim-en-der-Bergstrasse, Germany."
