BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) -- Binder Park Zoo is seeking donations via text message as part of a $3 million fundraising campaign aimed at adding a new lion exhibit and camping area for overnight visits.
The zoo in Battle Creek said Wednesday that the "Lions, Tortoise & Bears ... Oh My" capital campaign is divided into two parts. One part focuses on new exhibits at the zoo while the other, called "Heart of the Zoo," aims to support existing programs.
The zoo is encouraging donations via text, with hopes of backing the new lion habitat. Money also may be donated online or by mail.
As part of recent updates, the zoo has added a new home for its giant tortoise named Al. It also has opened a new black bear exhibit.
