BWL Sets Hearing for Potential Rate Hike

We should know by the end of the month if Lansing residents will have to fork over more money for their Board of Water and Light utility bills.

The BWL will hold public hearings on three rate hikes on January 20 with a possible vote by January 25.

The utility wants to hike rates 1.5 percent starting in March for operational costs.

It's also requesting a rate hike of 3.75 percent in October 2012 and October 2013.
BWL officials say the utility needs the money to help pay for its new plant in Reo Town.

BWL are rip offs anyway. In mid December they replaced my meter, send me a bill that goes all the way back to April. Mind you I paid every bill that came into my house from them, this new bill is just the difference. My problem is that I paid the bill they sent to me, I had no idea that my meter was broke, no interruption in my service. I changed all my light bulbs and started being a little more "Greener" around the house. Then a week before Christmas they send me a bill for the amount I would pay for a half a year of service, due two days before Christmas. I can't just tell them I fed up with them and pay them off and switch my service, NO I'm locked into their monopoly. I thought Monopoly's were illegal in America. I pay my city tax knowing that some of that goes to supporting the "city's" power company and they send me a bill that I pay. Now their meter was broke and I have to take it on the chin? If I go into a store and the product I am buying is mis marked I pay the price it say
