BWL Opens New Power Plant in Reo Town

The Board of Water and Light's new power plant in Reo Town is now open. The new $182 million plant is the first to be built in Michigan in 25 years and the first plant built by the BWL in 40 years.

This 8 story building will generate electricity and steam, thus the name "cogeneration"--

The BWL chose Reo Town in hopes that the project will bring new life to the community

The plant goes "commercial," which means fully functional, at 9:30 Monday morning. The public is welcome to attend the grand opening event at 9. Parking is available two blocks south of the site. And because this is such a big deal, a host of city and state officials will be on hand for the grand opening this morning including Mayor Virg Bernero, and Senator Debbie Stabenow. No coal will be burned here. Natural gas will create steam and electricity.

180 employees will work at this facility.

News 10's Shannon Kanter will have more on the opening tonight on News 10.
