A newspaper's analysis of spending reports shows that salaries have been on the rise for the staffs of U.S. House members.
The Detroit Free Press said Sunday that staff spending by Michigan's representatives in 2010 ranged from $1.29 million by Flint Democrat Dale Kildee to $837,000 by Bloomfield Township Democrat Gary Peters.
The newspaper says it compared total staff salary costs for the 429 U.S. House members who served all of 2009 and 2010 and found they rose 4.6 percent. The House has 441 members in all.
The analysis says Dearborn Democrat John Dingell spent $1.26 million on staff salaries in 2010. That's up from 5.4 percent from 2009.
Dingell says his goal is to have "qualified staff that is hardworking" and experienced and to reduce the amount of turnover.
