An accident backed up traffic on U.S. 127 and I-496 in East Lansing Thursday evening. At least two cars were involved in the accident just south of the Trowbridge Road ramp and 496 interchange. There's no word on what caused it or if anyone was seriously hurt. Police closed one lane of U.S. 127 south until the wreckage was cleared. I am so over this cluster of a mess every morning on 127 Northbound between 7:30 and 8:00. I leave my house at 7:00 AM and still cannot get to work by 8:00. I have to take 96 E to 127 N. Yesterday there was a three-car fender bender, so of course there were a ton of gawkers. I have no idea what happened this morning because the on ramp to get on 127 was backed up so bad I went to Okemos Road in an attempt to not be late. Each day this week, I have been 15 - 20 minutes late because of the traffic backup on 127 N. Why is this area such a problem? Are people: Not awake? Texting and driving? Not paying attention? Riding the bumper of the car in front of you? Not being able to merge properly? Seriously!?? What is it? When this area was repaved why was a third lane not put in is beyond me. There is a ton of traffic that comes onto the highway from Jolly/Collins Road Exit and there is a huge bottleneck EVERY MORNING. I have driven through rushhour in Chicago and it is not this bad.
