Accident Leads to Power Outage in Downtown Jackson

There was an accident with electric equipment at the Oak Street Substation. Electric service was cut for a little less than an hour, to about 4,000 customers.

Consumers Energy cut electric service around 2:30 PM to about 4,000 customers in Jackson today, after an accident at the Oak Street Substation

An employee made contact with electric equipment, and was injured at the substation. In response, Consumers Energy de-energized a 36,000 volt line, causing parts of downtown Jackson to be without power. The Jackson County courthouse closed, due to the outage.

Electrical service was restored to the area at 3:25 PM.

We have no information as to the condition of the injured worker. At this time, the identity of the worker has not been made public.
