48th Medieval Studies Conference May 9-12 at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) -- Thousands of Middle Ages enthusiasts are expected to gather at Western Michigan University next week for a four-day conference.

The 48th annual International Congress on Medieval Studies runs May 9-12 on the school's campus in Kalamazoo. MLive.com says about 3,000 academics, students and enthusiasts are expected to attend this year.

The conference includes about 575 sessions that include the presentation of scholarly papers, performances, workshops and panel discussions.

The university's Medieval Institute and the Fontana Chamber Arts are sponsoring a May 10 performance by the vocal group Anonymous in Kalamazoo College's Stetson Chapel.

The conference also will have sessions celebrating the 700th anniversary of the birth of the Italian poet Giovanni Boccaccio and the 50th anniversary of the death of novelist and scholar C. S. Lewis.
