GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) -- Four men have been convicted in the 2010 kidnapping and killing of a 19-year-old Lansing woman who was fatally shot in a car trunk outside her home.
The Lansing State Journal reports all four face life in prison when sentenced following the convictions Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids.
According to testimony, Charles Lewis Sr. shot Shayla Johnson's multiple times with a rifle. He was convicted of charges including premeditated murder. Mustafa Al-Din, Walee Al-Din and Ralphael Crenshaw also were convicted of charges related to the killing.
Al-Din's lawyer says an appeal is planned. Prosecutors say the defendants were tied to the "Block Burners" gang and wanted to kidnap Johnson to force her boyfriend to turn over cash and drugs. Four others were accused in the case.
