Power is back on in a section of southwest Lansing, after transmission lines failed at about 8:30am. Along with the loss of power to homes and businesses, several traffic lights stopped working.
It took less than 2 hours for the Board of Water and Light to return electricity to the area. Work had to be done in the area of Miller Road and Pleasant Grove Road. A BWL spokesperson says they are not certain yet, but they think a lightning strike from last night's storm may have weakened those lines.
